BRIGHT FUTURES
arc Ambassadors are people with intellectual and developmental disabilities employed as team members at arc Thrift Stores. They work in many different positions in the stores, including as donation attendants, clothing hangers, greeters, and cashiers. arc Ambassadors serve as examples of the organization’s mission in action – to have people with intellectual and developmental disabilities achieve self-respect, self-determination, and independence in their communities and professional workplace.
Many of our Ambassadors attend arc University, a program devoted to the enhancement of the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through enrichment, growth, recognition, and exposure to learning, fellowship, challenges, and new experiences.
The University was established to fill a vital need for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by offering an opportunity for growth and personal recognition, which in turn creates increased self-esteem, social interactions, acceptance, and inclusion.
Some of the classes Ambassadors take through the University include:
- Fire Safety
- Spanish
- Photography
- Wood Working
- Transportation
- Relationships and Boundaries
- Fitness
- Gardening
- Personal Safety
- Finance
- Sign Language
- Social Media Safety
