187: The Ultimate Vinyl Collecting Guide: Secrets from a Record Show Insider with Kobi
“Sometimes you find gold.”
Kobi is a lifelong collector and music lover who has always made a career out of following his passions. Part of the “iPod” generation of music fans, Kobi started collecting vinyl seriously in the late aughts after realizing he had never seen the cover of one his favorite albums. Eventually building a collection that got too big for his liking, he started a side hustle selling records at various 'record shows' mainly to make money to buy more records. At these shows he always felt like something was missing and that there was much more a record show could be.
Leaning on a background in event production, hospitality, and marketing, in 2021 he co-founded the Rocky Mountain Record Show in Denver, CO. RMRS is the show that he always wanted to attend himself and is a true celebration of collecting culture, not just a place to buy and sell records. RMRS has quickly grown to the largest record show in Colorado and one of the largest in the country, attracting buyers and sellers from all over the world. The show takes place over two-days and features over 75 different sellers, vinyl DJ's, food trucks, a full bar, a poster show, giveaways and more.
Building on RMRS's success, in 2024 Kobi turned the side hustle into the main gig, establishing a new show in his hometown of Philadelphia. VinylCon! an immediate success and has become a must-attend event for the vinyl community on the east coast. With the two shows established, Kobi is working to bring VinylCon! to even more communities in 2025 and beyond.
